Rachel Tuck – (London, London)

I am a very keen runner.

Gemma Body – (Plymouth, Devon)

I took up running whilst living in Brisbane, Australia in 2010. The Australian outdoor, sporty, can-do attitude must’ve rubbed off on me, as I had never been into running before moving there to live for a couple of years. I heard about a local 10km run and lots of people encouraged me to enter. I trained for months(!) before the event, building up slowly from running for a minute or two, up to running 9km before the big day. I was nervous and excited and hoped to prove to myself that I could run 10km, less than an hour (fingers crossed). When I came in at 56 minutes I was over the moon and decided that was enough for me and I could put my running shoes to the back of the cupboard.
Soon afterwards though I realised that I had come to enjoy the sense of freedom that running gave me and I enjoyed exploring different streets, parks and areas of the suburbs that I wouldn’t usually venture into. So I signed up for a half marathon because I have learnt that, for me, having an impending race is the best motivation.
Since completing my first half marathon in 2012, I have enjoyed numerous local runs back here in Devon. Running has also taken me up to London twice in the last two years, as I have ran the London marathon for SANDS (the stillbirth and neonatal death charity) in 3:25:08 this year.
